How to Interview Realtors® so You Can Pick the Best One for the Job

All Realtors® are not created equal, and not all Realtors® are really Realtors® at all. In fact it is a HUGE misconception that ALL agents do the same things. The differences between individual real estate agents are as diverse as the homes in a large, upscale, suburban neighborhood.....each one is UNIQUE.
You need a Realtor® that will knock it out of the park for you. In order to find that Realtor®, you have to know what to look for - how to pick the best one for the job. So, let's look at a few basic qualifications:
- You want a Realtor®, not just a real estate agent. All Realtors® are real estate agents, but not all real estate agents are Realtors®. What are the similarities and differences?
- Anyone who earns a real estate license is a real estate agent. Requirements vary from state to state, but all states require coursework to be completed and the applicant must pass the state exam.
- All agents and Realtors® are bound by certain legal obligations to their clients and customers. Traditionally, these common-law obligations are to:
- Put the client's interests above anyone else's
- Keep the client's information confidential
- Obey the client's lawful instructions
- Report to the client anything that would be useful
- Account to the client for any money involved
This is where the similarities end. Take a peek below to see what makes a Realtor® a Realtor®:
- A Realtor® has paid dues (and continues to pay dues every year) to be a member of the National Association of Realtors® (the largest trade association in the U.S.). An organization that is continually pushing their members to be the BEST they can be at their chosen profession.
- A Realtor® is held to a higher standard of conduct and is expected to abide by a strict Code of Ethics.
- A Realtor® is expected to uphold rules and regulations at the local, state, and national level.
Again, these are just the BASICS. As I said above, the differences between the services individual agents provide are as vast as the wide open prairie.
